Back again. Here's my pov:
January 2012 - the year starts off while on vacation (refer to last blog). I'm back at work, adjusting to the cold from the heat. My bf doesn't have work at the moment, so I cheered him up for the next 2 months.
February 2012 - still working. Just a day before the Grammy Awards were to be aired, Whitney Houston drowned in a bathtub in her suite at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. It was so sudden and was shocking. I always heard her songs on the radio and watched the movie "The Bodyguard" when I was young. She was the ultimate diva, with a powerful voice. Watching the Glee episode, dedicated to her, it kinda made me cry. Around the same month, I was watching the Korean drama "City Hunter" starring BOF actor Lee Min Ho on DVD. It feels like I was watching a movie, but the English subtitles near the 2nd half of the series felt messed up, particularly the name change from Korean to Mandarin dubbed.
March 2012 - After finishing "City Hunter," the next Korean drama I watched was "49 Days." Like the last DVD, the subs were messed up and had to watch most of the series online. The story was sad. I would say, these 2 dramas are a must watch. The rest of the month was uneventful until the end of the month that I went with my bf to Yorkdale to celebrate his b-day and watch "The Hunger Games." Its another one of those movie/book franchises like Harry Potter and Twilight combined. I heard it was compared to this Japanese movie "Battle Royale" that I haven't seen or heard of. This movie dates back to 2000. I was in 7th grade at that time. This was also the month in which the Ipad3 was released. The pixels and graphics are nice. Still, my Ipad1 is still the best.
April 2012 - During the Easter long weekend, I watched "Battle Royale" online. Its more torturing than "Hunger Games." This movie went to the extreme with the killings. I recognized one of the actors from another action movie (Kaiji) I watched 2 years ago. The ending part looked weird. The teacher is shot by the protagonist. I thought he should be dead by now. Just then the phone rings, and the teacher gets up and answers it. That part made me go wth?! Then he dies after answering it. There was a sequel to this, but it wasn't as strong as the first one. The next Korean drama I watched was "He's Beautiful." The subs are good this time and at times, I get sleepy. The men are hot, but not so much on the leading lady. It gets kinda annoying when the leading lady says 'sorry, I'll do better next time' too much on the lead singer. I'm not sure if I want to keep this DVD. Prince Hours was disappointing too.
May 2012 - At work, there were several activities during the lunch hour for vision events. It ranged from some sales (bake sale, car wash, garage sale) to water dunking the bosses. Summer hours at work officially began at the end of this month to the end of September. From Monday to Thursday, I had to work and extra 45 mins more than my regular schedule and on Fridays, I get to leave early around the lunch hour. I can do anything I want on Fridays =D. I was going to see another Korean DVD, but for some reason, I put it on hiatus for now. I kept watching this Korean variety show called "Running Man" that my bf told me about.
June 2012 - It looks like summer has come early. At the beginning of this month, there was a shooting at the Eaton Centre. It was shocking because it happened after 6 in the evening (at the food court) and a lot of people were enjoying their Saturday there. Two were killed while 4 were injured. On June 15th, history was made in Niagara Falls as a tightrope walker, Nik Wallenda, walked the length of Niagara Falls from the American Side to the Canadian Side in less than 30 minutes. It was broadcasted in primetime on ABC. The second week, history has been made in the women's side of the French Open. Maria Sharapova became the 6th woman to complete a career grand slam by winning all 4 majors. Meanwhile, on the men's side, the two finalists (Djokovic vs. Nadal) were also playing for history. Novak Djokovic was to complete a career grand slam and an era while Rafael Nadal was trying to achieve the most French Open titles. Nadal ended up winning in 4 sets.
July 2012 - The beginning of this month started off with a long weekend and it was very hot with temperatures feeling like 35-40 degrees Celsius. On one of my half day Fridays, I explored a cute stationary store (Morning Glory) in the "2nd" Koreatown part of Toronto. Its located near Yonge and Finch. The staff there are very friendly and nice. They had it at mall in Jersey City, New Jersey years ago, but it closed. Didn't know they had a store in Toronto. Wimbledon was the next major tournament in tennis and on the men's side, Andy Murray became the first Brit/Scot to make the Wimbledon finals since 1938. Few years ago, Tim Henman made 4 semi-finals to try to advance to the finals, but lost. Back to this year's tournament and the men's championship was a must watch. Murray was up against Roger Federer, a 6-time Wimbledon Champion, attempting to win a 7th Wimbledon, tying with Pete Sampras. In the end, Federer ended up winning it in 4 sets despite a rain/roof closure delay. British/Scottish fans were disappointed that Murray lost, but were still pleased with his first final appearance in his home country. A few weeks later, the London Olympics will take over the grounds of Wimbledon for the tennis event. Back in North America and incidents with guns continue into this month. On July 16, a neighbourhood in Toronto's east end had a shooting that killed 2 people during a block party and injuring several others. Four days later on July 20, a shooting occurred at a movie theatre in Colorado. Movie goers in the theatre were about to watch a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" when a gunman appeared right in front of them (about 30 mins into the film), shooting them. Twelve of them died while 58 were injured. One of the deceased victims witnessed the Eaton Centre shooting the month before. If I were to go watch a movie at a theatre, I definitely would take caution. The governments in both the US and Canada are not doing anything about this to stop this violence. Police and other investigators can't do this alone.
On July 27th, the Summer Olympics took place in London. I managed to watch the whole opening ceremony. I was in OMG mode when actor Rowan Atkinson a.k.a. for Mr. Bean made an appearance in a performance of "Chariots of Fire." I was kinda disappointed in the choice of the final torch bearers. It ended up being 7 children/teens, hence the motto "Inspire a Generation." Also, near the end of this month, I saw a catchy k-pop vid on Youtube called "Gangnam Style." It was sung by Psy. I didn't get the video despite the fact I recognized Hyuna of 4Minute in the video. The song refers to the rich town of Gangnam, which is somewhere in Seoul, South Korea. Its kind of like the second Macarena, in terms of the dance moves. Celebrities were even in on this and passed it to their fans. The vid is currently the top vid in the music section of YT and its getting a lot of views. Its better than that annoying Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call me Maybe" that was on in the first half of 2012.
August 2012 - The Summer Olympics continued until August 12. The medal race was neck and neck between the US and China. China is like the new rival against the US since the Soviet Union/Russia. They have been dominating since the last summer games in their country. Great Britain, being the host, had a success in receiving more golds than silver and bronze medals. I was mostly focusing on the tennis portion. The women's singles gold medal game featured Serena Williams vs. Maria Sharapova. Both of them achieved their 4 majors in singles and were attempting to add Olympic gold in singles to their resume. The match was so lopsided and disappointing. Serena ended up winning the gold medal, not just in singles, but also the doubles with her older sister Venus. The men's side was a rematch of the recent men's final at Wimbledon. This time, there was no rain delay and Murray ended up being an Olympic champion in front of the home crowd. Good for him. As for the rest of the games, I did see some of the events including Usain Bolt breaking another record. Team Canada's performance was not bad. They had more bronze medals than silver or gold. They only had 1 gold in these games. For the rest of this month, I watched "The Bourne Legacy." The best part of the film came at the 2nd half.
September 2012 - There is exciting news. I have moved to a brand new house (^o^)! No more noisy neighbours to deal with. That includes the kids playing on the street with no parent supervision during the summer, partying and smoking college students on weekends, and high school students throwing trash during their lunch break. No more firetrucks or busy cars passing by either.
US Open tennis begins. Andy Murray and Serena Williams continued their winning streak, with both of them winning the men's and women's singles respectively. For Murray, its the first tennis major in his career. Back to the Gangnam Style craze and now its viewed in some US daytime shows including Ellen Degeneres. Psy made a surprise appearance on Ellen's show, teaching her and Britney Spears the moves. Psy has been in the music industry for awhile, mostly in South Korea. It was this recent song that made him famous worldwide. His English is really good since he did study in the US years ago. A lot of people are posting vids of the song, with them dancing the moves. Parody's of the song have been done too. Near the end of this month, Apple introduces the iPhone5. Wowwww.....pretty. Its now taller, thinner, and lighter. Not too sure if I'm getting one as a new phone. (T_T) wahhhh.....summer hours at work are over for this year. Back to regular hours.
October 2012 - The Presidential Election for 2012 is on and 4 debates take place this month. President Barrack Obama (Democratic) is seeking election for a second term against Republican Mitt Romney. The debates are a must watch for America to decide to vote for. My aunt from California comes to visit for a few days, just in time for our first party "House Blessing" at our new house. I got a new Longchamp handbag to use. Affordable to buy them in the US than here in Canada. I took her on a shop date to downtown, including commuting by TTC to get there. We ate Japanese food at Akashiro, which is at the Urban Eatery food court of the Eaton Centre. After all that shopping, time to party in the new house! The priest from the nearby church was among the guests to give the house blessing. He's a really good singer. Near the end of this month, a storm was approaching the northeastern US and parts of Canada. It was Hurricane Sandy. It happened on the evening of Oct 29 and continues to Oct 30. I was supposed to go to work on the 30th, but I was told to go home (by my boss/supervisor) because the building had no electricity. It was running on generator. Luckily, my area still had power. I only had one unexpected day off and eventually returned to work on the 31st. My relatives in the states; however, don't have power and are freezing without heat as a result of the storm. For them, they lasted almost 2 weeks without power or heat. At least they were able to cook food through a gas stove.
November 2012 - The northeastern US is still recovering from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Several people lost their homes and are seeking help. A marathon in New York was supposed to happen on the first weekend of the month, but was cancelled at the last minute. The Presidential election campaign was put on hold for a few days as a result. It did resume just in time for Election Day on Nov 6. The results appeared to be tight between Obama and Romney. It was up to the states of Ohio and Florida to decide. In the end, Obama wins re-election. Hip Hip Hooray! The second half of the month, I watched Skyfall 007 in theatres. I never watched a 007 film before until this one came out. I wasn't expecting the theatre to be packed since a lot of people (mostly women) are taking in the final Twilight film, but I was wrong. Skyfall came out the week before Twilight was released. Both movies were a must watch this month, just in time for the upcoming holiday season. At work, the workload was getting busier and some donors are asking for tax (t4) slips.
December 2012 - Finally, the last month of the year. I did my shopping on the first Saturday of the month. Just two days before my birthday, a shooting at a elementary school in Connecticut occurred. A 20-year-old shot his mom, then drove her car to an elementary school, killing 26 people, including 20 children, and then kills himself. It was so tragic and shocking. These 20 kids (12 girls and 8 boys), were mostly 1st graders, and were looking forward to Christmas. Now, they're all in heaven along with the 6 female teachers who were trying to shield them and stopping the gunman from continuing his rampage. After this incident, will the government tighten gun control rules and crimes involving guns? The same with Canada. This is still an ongoing issue. If they don't do anything, the violence continues until it gets resolved.
Continuing on this month, yes its my birthday. Instead of giving gift cards, I decided to bake and give chocolates. Yum! My friends and I went out to downtown and ate Japanese ramen for lunch. For me, its the first time trying it. Very delicious despite the fact I have to use chopsticks and a spoon instead of a fork. Afterwards, we did some walking in the mall, taking in the stores and taking pics. The decorations in the mall were gigantic and the Xmas tree was made of LED lights than Swarovski crystals that was used in previous years. My close friend from HS gave me a cute manga book (Chi's Sweet Home) while my bf gave me a Swarovski charm bracelet. Awwww.....*blushes (~^_^)*. The day went so fast despite it rained. The last of week of 2012 (Dec 17-21) at work was brutal and crazy. So many stuff to get done before the holiday break. Its going to be an overload when I return after the New Years. December 19 was the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant. The pageant was going well until after the final answer portion. Miss USA ended up winning it over Miss Philippines. It looked rigged, in my opinion. Miss USA did not have a good answer while Miss Philippines answered it correctly. What were the judges and the Trump Organization thinking?! I guess they made USA win either out of sympathy of what happened the week before in Connecticut or Trump wants to work with her rather than Philippines. Screw u Trump! Three days before Christmas, and I finally got a new phone. Its an iPhone (o^_^d)! iPhone! iPhone! Heehee (*^^*). It was the 4s. I feel it has a better grip than the 5, plus I can use my existing iPad adopter with this one to recharge it. At least, it acts like my new digi cam, just in time to take Christmas pics on Christmas Day. Christmas Day was held at my house with a few of my relatives and former neighbours and friends joining along. It was another green Christmas since it didn't snow that day. We partied till 2 in the morning, Boxing Day. I overslept, and didn't go out to take in the mall or the deals. The first snowfall began that evening until the 27th. Ringing in 2013 was uneventful. Just watching New Year's festivities on TV including Psy performing "Gangnam Style" in Times Square with 2 of his co-stars (including Yu-Jae Suk). The 31st happened to by Psy's birthday. Who knows will be the next single? As soon as 2013 started, I had a New Year's meal with family before going to bed. I even screenshoted my phone to prove its already the New Years.
That's what happened for this year. What will we expect in 2013?
